“Would you prefer to go back to your childhood or to go to your future life?” Pingree students were asked which option they would pick and why. Six out of seven people interviewed said that they would prefer to go back to their childhood rather than into their future life.
Freshman Ava Mae Mierz said that she would rather go back to her childhood because, “every kid is friendly when you are younger, so it’s easier to make friends.” Mierz claimed friendships formed at a young age were more simple and stress free. She also mentioned how she loved the lack of responsibility that comes with young age. Not having to worry about grades, the future, or anything other than what you wanted for lunch.
Seniors Bridget Ayles and Charlotte Lee said something similar. “We miss the innocence that comes with being a kid. There’s no responsibility and everything is so much more fun and easier. We don’t want to be adults yet!” The idea of wanting to go back to childhood was pretty unanimous – all except for one person.
Surprisingly, freshman Kaeleigh Belanger said that she would rather travel to her future. When asked why, she explained that she would want to see where she would be in ten years. Belanger stated, “I want to own a successful business, have a lot of friends, and have a happy life!”
Except for Belanger’s wish to visit the future, most opinions were based on visiting simpler times . Although not everyone’s answers were the same, everyone agreed on wanting to see qualities and things they don’t have at this time, whether that was innocence and kindness, or success and happiness.
