Fashion at Pingree is a huge part of how we as students and faculty express ourselves and our creativity. For some, fashion is a part of their identity. It can be crucial for some students who attend Pingree. This year’s freshman class has been asked what their type of school dress is. Questions included: “What is your favorite fashion trend? Least favorite trend? What trend would you like to bring back? Is there any trend you want to be gone?”
Freshman Alice Peterson said that sneakers, preferably Converse, with dresses is her favorite trend right now. Peterson also explained that her least favorite trend lately is “short pencil skirts.” Lam Pham, another freshman, explained that she would like ball gowns to be brought back into the world of fashion. Freshmen Sophia Bonacorso, Anne Roberts, and Skylar Donovan have all explained that their favorite fashion choice is “layered jewelry, Converse, and high waisted pants with crop tops.” All of them have also spoken about the fact that their least favorite fashion trends today are jorts, parachute pants, cargo jeans, skinny jeans, and tie dye.
However, favorite seasons to dress have varied between students. Lucia LaFauci, a senior, said that fall or summer is her favorite season to dress for. Senior Abby Duval said that fall is her favorite. The majority of students said that their favorite season to dress for is fall. Nobody said that winter is their favorite.
Along with seasons, one question asked was: “Would you like Pingree to have a dress code, and if yes, what would be ideal on the dress code?” Freshmen Tien Do, Layla Glynn, Kaelyn Bagenstose, and Lam Pham said no to the dress code. Would different grades say the same? Senior LaFacusi said she didn’t want a dress code because she thinks it’s good to let students be comfortable. Senior Abby Duval, however, said yes to a dress code but thinks it should be more relaxed.
Overall, the Pingree community said that they like to express themselves through clothing, and would like to continue with that.
