It’s been a few weeks since the end of 2025 Paris Fashion Week, where designers debuted their Fall/Winter collections. One brand, which has a history of not letting trends influence their classic designs, stepped outside their comfort zone.
Chanel opted for more modern designs, following trends that have influenced other designers.
This Chanel collection was designed by the brand’s creative studio in preparation for the Chanel’s new head designer and creative director Mathieu Blazy. Blazy will debut his first collection with the brand this fall. I immediately noticed the differences between Chanel’s new look from former creative director Virginie Viard’s classic designs.
The collection largely featured sheer tulle. While tulle specifically has not been a common trend, sheer looks are making a comeback. The style appeared in many designers’ spring/summer collections for 2025. However, Chanel’s embrace of the trend means it has officially become more than a passing trend. While not everyone loves sheer skirts (myself included), they are going to become increasingly present in the coming months. The classic brand has the power to turn any trend into a wardrobe staple.
Another key feature in the collection was statement jewelry. No, I’m not talking about the chunky gold rings or necklaces that have become increasingly popular in the past year or so. I’m talking about the iconic return of Chanel’s classic 2000s pearl necklace. This could mean Channel is finally embracing Y2K’s comeback as so many other designer’s have. If Blazy continues with this idea, we can probably expect a Chanel take on Miu Miu’s new retro midi skirts which debuted at their own Paris Fashion Week show.
Paris Fashion Week models also took the stage wearing large ruffled collars which certainly brought to mind the Elizabethan era. While ruffles might not be my personal choice, it seems that big collars are back! Indeed, over the past year or so, Peter Pan collars have become increasingly prominent. Ganni’s classic tie blouse, which features a large Peter Pan collar and puffy short sleeves, has been recreated over and over and over again. While Chanel’s collection did not feature Peter Pan collars specifically, the brand has definitely embraced the style.
It’s difficult to say what exactly Mathieu Blazy has planned for the timeless brand, but we can expect the trends featured in Chanel’s 2025 fall/winter collection to become more popular with everyone in the next few months. So, start looking for these styles because they aren’t going anywhere.
