Pingree volleyball has officially begun their 2022 season and they are eager for a successful year.

Having lost their head coach last year, the team has started fresh with a completely new coaching staff. Emily Starros and Brian Carver have stepped up as the co-head coaches. Emily Staross is in her first year as a chemistry teacher at Pingree and has much past experience playing volleyball in college. Brain Carver has coached volleyball for a long time and is also a teacher at Brookwood School. In addition, Alison Falvey, a Pingree graduate and varsity volleyball captain, has entered the team as an assistant coach bringing good firsthand experience to the team.

The team roster has a mix of returning varsity players, past JV players, and freshmen. So far the team has adapted very well to the new coaching staff and is working well together in preparing for their season.

The varsity volleyball team had its first game this past Friday, September 16 against Concord Academy. Unfortunately, Concord won the game 3-0. However, each set was only lost by 2-3 points, showing that it was a tough battle and was close throughout.

“I think we played extremely well for it being our first time playing all together,” says senior captain Sam Jones. “There are a lot of new and young players on the team with little varsity experience and I’m proud of how they have adapted to the environment of varsity level sports in high school.”

The team’s next game is Wednesday, September 21 at Beaver Country Day School. They’re looking to come away with their first win of the season.
