While it can be difficult to guess what the next fashion craze will be, there is one clear way to predict upcoming trends.
By analyzing runway shows from prominent brands, it is easy to discover trends that will either continue, or new trends that are likely to pop up soon. Many designers featured lace detailing and polka dots in their fall 2025 collections. Not surprisingly, both arose as major trends this summer and have continued prominently into the fall.
This year, designers from major fashion houses, such as Valentino, Chanel, Prada, Dior, Miu Miu, and several others, had many common themes among their collections. Monochrome outfits–specifically blue ones–could be found in practically every collection. Sheer fabrics and lace detailing were also featured in 12 out of 16 collections of the most distinguished brands. While not exactly a “new” trend, small beaded and floral details were also popular across several collections. The most notable design aspect was high collars. Pretty much every single designer featured high and defined collars in a large portion of their designs.
It is important to mention that trend prediction is not science and having an understanding of a brand and its designer’s characteristics is crucial. It is extremely common for a collection to feature structured designs; in fact, it is the defining trait for Schiaparelli. Bold jewelry and headpieces are also typical and do not signify a trend. Prior to Mathieu Blazy’s debut, Chanel liked to keep it classy, but that did not mean modesty was in. Also, just because one designer has a common feature in their collection does not mean that it will become a trend. Miu Miu’s spring ‘26 collection included 1950’s housewife-esque designs, but it’s unlikely that aprons will become a wardrobe staple.
Nevertheless, runway shows are undoubtedly the most reliable way to predict fashion trends.
